Yesterday, Bill Maher, in an attempt at edgy humor, referred to himself as a “house n*gger” in an interview with Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse. At the time, I predicted that Maher would just double down by decrying any criticism of him as political correctness. Well, shockingly, he apologized…sort of. I say “sort of” because the apology was issued through his publicist. It reads:
“Friday nights are always my worst night of sleep because I’m up reflecting on the things I should or shouldn’t have said on my live show. Last night was a particularly long night as I regret the word I used in the banter of a live moment. The word was offensive and I regret saying it and am very sorry.”
However, I wonder if the company he works for might have helped him arrive at the need for an apology. HBO issued the following statement:
“Bill Maher’s comment last night was completely inexcusable and tasteless. We are removing his deeply offensive comment from any subsequent airings of the show.”
So, we’ll see what the future holds for Maher. As I’ve stated previously, he lost me as a fan long ago. If he says something that interests me, I’ll just catch a clip on YouTube. Otherwise, I’m done letting this guy occupy a space in my thoughts.
